The T-Rex Cafe

The same company known as Landry's that had made the Rainforest Cafe had also made the T-rex Cafe. Now, I've never eaten there, but saw the website and it looked really cool. This time the restaurant is a prehistoric themed restaurant with animatronic dinosaurs, wolly mamoths, mastadons, etc. So everthing is dino themed. I had then seen on You tube the grand opening of this themed restaurant in Disney World. When we went to Disney in 2007, they were still working on it, so it wasn't open yet, and I didn't notice it within the Animal Kingdom. Anyway, as a dinolover I was blown away at this place. It was wild, fun, and colorful. Everything looked really cool, and I almost died of jealosy. My jaw had dropped as I saw the restaurant's cool features, as they have a cool fossil diging exhibit for the kids, tons of lifesized dinosaurs on display, and lots of roaring, growling, and screeching from all the prehistoric creatures that were there. Even the menu had dinosaur named items for their meals.
I felt like I missed out, although the place wasn't ready for business yet, but we don't go to DisneyWorld all that often. Most other people go more often, as they probably live within 1-2 hours away from there. But if you need to take a plane, make hotel reservations, buy tickets to the park, etc. Then it's more like a vacation, then just a fun day and the expenses would easily go through the roof. I would love to go there for lunch or any meal, just so long as I don't become lunch for one of the dinos there.

The Rainforest Cafe

This is one of my all time favorite themed restaurants. It's themed as a tropical rainforest, making it a wild place to shop and eat. I remember eating at one and had many, many pleasant experiences. I could have tons of worries and concerns, and upon entering that restaurant, my problems just leave me. I remember the colorful parrots that were on display in front of the place, as a trainer would come out to introduce you to her parrot friends and tell you some very important facts of the rainforest. Although some of them were able to talk, the trainer sometimes couldn't get them to talk. However I think that I had made a parrot friend from the place, as I sometimes talked to him or her whenever I come and visit. Then one day, I was in the souvenier shop, and the same parrot that I had been talking to had seen me and recognized me and squawked to get my attention. I turn around and see the parrot that got my attention, and it was the same parrot that I had been talking to, and suddenly he or she looked directly at me and said clear as a bell "Hi, how ya doin." I guess I now have a birdy buddy. Anyway, the restaurant part was amazing, as they had provided a simulated rainfall that made a misty effect.
The restaurant itself was very colorfully decorated with tons of green vines and leaves, trees and had many hidden surprises as their animatronic jungle friends made their presense known. My favorite was the elelphant family scene. I had often gotten my table by that scene and got excited whenever the elephants became active trumpeting and moving.
Overhead they had a lighted simulation of a starry night. With the lights, the whole atmosphere of the place was paradise. But suddenly, a simulated rainstorm occurs as flashes of lighting are seen in the sky and in the trees and the lights dim down to indicate a rainstorm. No it really didn't rain, but the effects were exciting. My favorite meal was the Bonzai Barbecue Beef, which was striped barbecue beef placed into a sandwich wrap. It came with waffle fries and a small salad. I usually got fruit punch or lemonade with my meal. It was really good, and for dessert, I would get some type of chocolate brownie ala mode.
Within the back of the restaurant there was a waterfall or river pond with a huge statue inside it, with a colorful rainbow seen on the wall. I sometimes placed a coin inside the pond to make a wish. There were tons of surprises around every corner. A giant mushroom had revealed a bar, where the seats were animal designed. And for the relaxing mood, they have giant fish tanks with colorful coral and large fish swimming around. It was wonderful. And even there was a talking animatronic tree named Tracy, who told important facts of the rainforest. Overall it was a wonderful place.  Here is a few photos I've taken of the Rainforest Cafe.  My first time I've eaten at this tropical paradise eatery, was at the Source Mall in Roosevelt Field back in 1997, and sadly it closed it's doors the early 2000's, as this was one of the more expensive restaurants to run. Too bad, I'm really going to miss my parrot friends.
